US SHOWS & BOOTHS:
At Frontier Safaris, we offer exclusive plains game and dangerous game hunting experiences on 80,000 acres of authentic, wild terrain - a true African safari as it was meant to be. Our specialty? The Addo Cape Buffalo - a rare and challenging sub-species once driven to the brink of extinction.
These buffalo are not just any game. Descended from a population nearly wiped out in the 1800s, the Addo buffalo have adapted with exceptional nocturnal instincts, an acute sense of smell and hearing, and an uncanny ability to vanish into thick bush. Hunting them demands patience, skill, and respect — and for that reason, they are considered one of the most difficult and rewarding dangerous game hunts in Africa.
Established in 1994, our conservation program began with a pilot herd of six Cape Buffalo. After introducing a further 30 cows and a new breeding bull in 2008, our herd was estimated to have grown to around 200 in 2020. Currently, our herd is sitting at 250 Buffalo and is estimated to grow to 450 animals by 2030.
The Addo buffalo are notorious for having a good SCI score, with even the bottom end of our bulls still scoring a bronze. Their horn shape is characterized by good curls, with a very respectable boss and almost always a V shape when observed from the top. This V shape has been speculated to assist when moving through the very dense brush that they inhabit.
When hunting with us the hunt typically starts at sun rise. If a potential bull is spotted a stalk will be made, otherwise fresh tracks are searched for and when found the pursuit begins. A typical day will result in a minimum of a 5-mile walk. If physical constraints are a concern, this won’t be a problem. Buffalo are incredibly habitual. With a lot of patience, bulls can be ambushed while walking along their routine paths. This methodology has led to many successful hunts for our clientele that might have physical challenges.
An ever-growing population with new genetic bulls and cows being added every 3 years, has enabled us to match the land’s natural carrying capacity — thus enabling us to offer 100% success rates on buffalo hunts.

Cape Buffalo – Soft Boss Bull under 36
Due to selective management, selecting for: fertility, horn spread, bosses and body size, sometimes we might see a bull that doesn’t necessarily meet our breeding criteria. This is why we have chosen to introduce the soft boss bull under 36. For our conservation and breeding goals this category is arguably one of the most important categories for our breeding objectives. Due to our terrain and land size, a buffalo bull might only ever be seen once or twice a year, making it vital to remove these bulls from the potential breeding pool when they are identified.

Cape Buffalo – Hard boss bull under 36
The hard boss bulls, under 36 inches make up the bottom end of the size category that we have on the property. This composition is about 10% of the dugga bull population that we have on the property. Despite the size, these buffalo still offer the great experience of hunting one of Africa’s most incredible dangerous game. Leaving you with a thrilling experience and great trophy.

Cape Buffalo – Hard boss bull 36 - >40
About 50% of the bulls on the property fall into this category. They are typically found in bachelor groups. Occasionally, they are hunted out of a heard, to leave the bigger bulls for breeding. These bulls are notorious for being aggressive due to their high testosterone levels.

Cape Buffalo – Hard boss bull 40 – 42
This category constitutes 20 - 30% of the buffalo bulls that we have on the property. When hunting one of these bulls a lot of time will usually be spent on gauging the bulls age to determine if it’s a good bull to take or leave for breeding. These bulls are generally older bulls that have been breeding for a few years or a lone bull that is no longer in the heard. These bulls generally have a beautiful spread and amazing boss with big bodies.

Cape Buffalo 42 inch +
About 10 – 20 % of our bulls fall into this criterion. Every year we harvest a few bulls in the 44 – 48-inch range. By 2030 our goal is the have a minimum of 50% of our bulls in this category. Due to exceptional selection and introduction of new genetics, we have seen the quality of our bulls increase yearly.
