South Africa and Namibia have received some incredible rain over the past few months. This coupled with good predator management has resulted in a large increase in animal numbers. Due to an excess of animals, culling is necessary to keep the population dynamics healthy. Generally it takes a few trips to Africa before a sable is added to the list. Our Motto is - make hay while there is sunshine. After searching the whole day for a particular Waterbuck that we scouted, we decided to switch over to this bachelor hartebeest. This bull was a great end to the 10 day hunt, worn down teeth, massive mass and great meat. #hunting #hunt #huntafrica #hunter #huntafrica
Switching gears to a Red Hartebeest
The lowland Nyala is often found around water. With a vast array of rivers and streams in the Eastern Cape, high angled shots off a rock face are a common occurrence. After spotting the bull from a ways off, the diesel stalk was engaged. Using the vehicle we drove to the top of the cliff and walked over. To our surprise the bull popped out the brush at a mere 50 yards, however the 60 degree angle would offer a good challenge. #africahunting #africa #hunt #hunting

The kudu, of all plains game animals, tends to be the # 1 choice for the majority of hunters. Incredible eyesight coupled with great intelligence make it a very rewarding hunt. 10 days of hard hunting resulted in a magnificent animal being harvested at a mere 150 yards. #kudu #hunt #hunting #huntafrica

The karoo is a very arid area of South Africa. Open plains and short to little vegetation make closing the distance on a stalk incredibly challenging. Gemsbuck also known as Oryx, have incredible eyesight. Native to the open plains, they tend to enjoy the grass covered, mountain tops of the rolling Eastern Cape ranges. Getting within shooting distance requires great skill and luck. After spotting them early in the morning, we finally got our opportunity through a very small gap in a tree. A very challenging shot was successfully mastered through the opening with a 325 WSM - a beautiful animal with even better tasting meat. #oryx #hunting #hunt #huntafrica #africahunting #mountainhunting

Not many people know that zebra can be an incredibly challenging hunt. Having very good eyesight helps them to evade hunters. Spotting them from about 800 yards away and planning a stalk into the wind enabled us to get this beautiful male. The Golden wildebeest is an amizingly beutiful animal. Many people are confused by the differnces between a blue and black wildebeest. The golden wildebeest is just a color variant of the blue wildebeest. Both are able to interbreed and sometimes give the even more scarce - King Wildebeest. These bulls can sometimes reach up to 1 000lb. Using a good bullet in our 7mm rem mag we ensure that the animal is taken down as quick as possible. Warthogs are one of our favorite animals to hunt. Not only are they prolific breeders but they also have great quality meat. Staying in holes at night and coming out during the day to warm up in the sun makes for a challenging hunt. They have a great sense of smell and hearing, however their eye sight is not good at all. Using a Remington model 700 Sendero chambered in 7mm rem mag and scoped with a Leupold VX6, 2-12 power.

Blesbuck are one of our more challenging animals to hunt due to their vigikance. Generally found in open areas which always makes the stalk a challenge. On todays hunt the mist aided us in getting close enoughj to make the perfect shot.

Waterbuck are one of the most beautiful animals Africa has to offer. As their name suggests, waterbuck are often found in the vicinity of a water source wether it be a dam or river. Having a very oily skin due to their hollow hair, many people have developed the misconception that waterbuck meat is sub standard. If you ever do get the chance to hunt one, take care when skinning to not let the oil from the hair get onto the meat. Being thick skinned, heavy muscled and thick boned both calibre and bullet choice are very important. We used a 7mm rem mag with 140 grain Sierra game changers foir this hunt.

Frontier Safaris Blue Wildebeest Hunt
The sable antelope has to be an envy for any hunter coming to Africa. Jet black to brown bodies with white facial maskings topped with an incredibkle pair of curved horns, make for an incredibly beautiful animal. Walk and stalking any animal with a bow is no easy task. But to hunt a sable on foot is a great achievment. We spotted this bull from about a mile away and made our stalk. Due to their incredible eye sight our arrow was slightly string jumped. We managed to get one of the lungs and got the bull about 200 yards from where we shot him.

In the previous week of hunting Fellow Deer in Part 1, we succeeded with the rifles but unfortunately Scot did not get in range of a beautiful Stag for a shot with the bow. Therefore we went back to try our luck again with the bow. Bow used is a Matthews Triax and the rifle used is a Remington model 700 Sendero 7mm equipped with a Leopold Mark 8 scope.

On today's hunt we took Zara to hunt a beautiful Cape Eland bull. After a perfect heart shot with the 308 and Norma Ammunition, the bull expired after a mere 10 yards from where he was shot.
